Wyre privacy policy

Welcome, visitor or interested reader: privacy is important to you and you’re interested in our privacy policy. At Wyre, your privacy matters to us too and we do all we can to manage it in a careful and responsible manner.

The collection and use of personal data by Wyre is always done in accordance with the applicable legal and regulatory provisions, in particular, the General Data Protection Regulation, also known as GDPR.

The information below is intended to help you understand how we process personal data at Wyre.

For more information about cookies and how you can manage your preferences, please see our cookie policy.

Who are we?

We are Wyre BV, with our registered office at Liersesteenweg 4, 2800 Mechelen and registered with the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises under number 0787.805.690, RPR Antwerpen, section Mechelen (hereafter referred to as “Wyre”).

Wyre is the infrastructure company established by Telenet and Fluvius. Wyre provides a fiber network in Flanders and large parts of Brussels. It makes this network available to its partners, these being telecom and internet service providers.

Wyre has no direct relationship with end users. We act as processors for the connection of private residences to the Wyre fiber network. This means that Wyre works on behalf of your telecom and internet service provider. The provider decides what data is collected from you, how it is collected, for what purposes, and with whom it shares it. They are therefore the data processor and their privacy policy applies.

For a specific set of activities, Wyre also acts as data processor. This includes:

  • processing your data if you visit our website (see our cookie policy);
  • processing your data if you apply for a job or work for us;
  • processing your data if you visit our premises;
  • processing your data if you provide services to us (as a supplier);
  • processing data if Wyre provides connectivity to you as a municipality or company.

Who is protected by this privacy policy?

Everyone who uses our services is protected by this privacy policy. By “everyone”, we mean natural persons (not companies or offices) whose identity we know (you are identifiable as an individual).

This includes:

  • the contact person of our suppliers and partners;
  • the contact person of our clients;
  • visitors to our offices or company premises;
  • visitors to our website.

This privacy policy does not apply to the end users (individual clients) of the telecom and internet service providers. For these people, the telecom and internet service provider’s privacy policy applies. Wyre does process the personal data of end users, but this is done in accordance with the instructions of the telecom and internet service provider.

Applicants and employees of Wyre are invited to consult the Wyre privacy policy relating to applicants and employees.

What personal data does Wyre process and why?

Wyre processes various categories of personal data in carrying out its activities. In this section, we explain the categories of data that we collect, how we obtain it, and the purposes for which we process it.

We have access to the identification data, contact details, and technical information of end users via their telecom and internet service provider. We process this to enable connections and to provide technical support. Wyre has no access to the traffic data and content of the communications that pass through the cables.

Our website uses cookies and similar techniques to optimize the user experience of website visitors. This data is generated by your use of our website(s). For more information on the type of cookies that our website(s) collect(s) and how you can manage your preferences, please see our cookie policy.

Additionally, we collect identification data such as name, address, email address, and telephone number of people we are in contact with. This includes the contact people at our partners, suppliers, and clients. We obtain this data directly from you in the context of our business relationship. This data is only processed in relation to the relevant cooperation(s).

To guarantee security in and around our offices and premises, you will be filmed by our security cameras if you visit our sites. These images are only stored with a view to security of goods and people and to prevent misuse, fraud, and other offences that we and our colleagues may fall victim to.

Wyre does not make automatic decisions that have legal consequences for you or where such decisions significantly affect you.

How do we protect your personal data?

The protection of your personal data is a priority for Wyre. We have therefore implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures to provide maximum protection of personal data held in our systems and databases against unauthorized access and/or use, loss, or theft. These measures are regularly tested, evaluated, and adjusted where necessary to ensure adequate protection at all times.

Our information security policy is entirely aligned with the international ISO27002 standard and contains guidelines relating to issues including access control, data encryption, security of operations, security of communication, and physical security. A specialized security team ensures the implementation and monitoring of the guidelines to ensure the security of our databases, networks, infrastructure, and information systems.

Access control is an important aspect of our information security policy. Wyre has implemented procedures to limit access to our databases, systems, equipment, and networks to people for whom access is strictly necessary to carry out their role. These people must maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all guidelines for ensuring the protection of personal data.

Wyre provides specific privacy and security training for its employees to explain the guidelines and procedures and make employees aware of the risks connected with the processing of personal data.

Wyre also demands high standards of security from its partners and suppliers who process personal data on our behalf. Partly through contractual safeguards, we ensure that, like us, they process your data securely and with respect for privacy laws. We expect our partners and suppliers to implement an information security policy and security measures in line with international standards and best practice.

Do we pass on your personal data? And to whom?

To provide you with our services, in certain cases we use third parties who have access to your personal data. The transfer of your data is restricted to what is necessary to carry out the agreed assignment. These third parties include:

  • companies and self-employed technicians who maintain our network and carry out installation;
  • external call centers that provide customer support by telephone;
  • specialist ICT companies that support our IT team;
  • companies specialized in telecommunications and network infrastructure;
  • companies connected to Telenet (who belong to the Liberty Global or Telenet group if they manage technical platforms or software applications for us);
  • specialist big data companies (data analysts, cloud providers);
  • specialist cookie analytics companies (such as Google and Adobe).

We ensure that these third parties, like us, manage your data securely, carefully, and with respect, and we provide adequate contractual safeguards.

Your personal data may also be processed outside the European Union (in the European Economic Area, or EEA). Many large IT suppliers, infrastructure suppliers, and technology companies are not established in the European Union. We provide contractual guarantees so that your data is assured of adequate protection with them.

How long do we hold your personal data?

For the personal data that we process on behalf of telecom and internet service providers, the retention terms of the provider apply.

The personal data processed by Wyre as controller are retained for as long as necessary to carry out the purposes for which they were collected.

What are your privacy rights and how can you exercise them?

To exercise your privacy rights with relation to the data that Wyre processes on behalf of telecom and internet service providers, we refer you to the provider’s privacy policy. The provider will be able to process your request.
